Now is the time to take healing action.

For much too long we have used our rivers and streams as gutters to dispose of unwanted materials of a wide variety.  Medicines have been flushed down toilets and end up in the river, tires are dumped in the river, staying there for years, and plastics of all types can be found along the shore, floating downstream, or decorating a tree.  Now we have a chance to deal with surface runoff pollution from developed and developing land.

I support the strengthening of stormwater regulations to improve water quality for human consumption, recreation, and other needs for better water.

I urge the adoption of the proposed development design criteria limiting runoff from developed and developing land to 0.28 pounds of phosphorus per acre.

It makes sense to enact regulations designed to support smart growth development strategies and that do not create disincentives for redeveloping already developed land or high-density projects in urban areas.
