Unnecessary Bureaucracy

This new proposal amounts to unnecessary bureaucracy, and I know this to be true because I have seen the same action fail in the Department of Defense's contracting community.  In order to have a DoD contracting warrant, you must fulfill several hours of yearly continuing education.  The majority of the courses offered are instructed by individuals who have not been dealing with contracts for several years and are working with outdated information.  There is very little structure in the criteria for what qualifies as a credible continuing education course, and this leads many individuals who simply find courses that are simple but of little value to contracting.  The program has proven to be hard to manage and of little value.

I believe if this proposal is passed, we will be simply creating another regulation that will drain funds and create an additional burden for practicing professional engineers.  A good engineer will naturally continue their education through internet research, Journal Article reviews, University classes, and professional development seminars.  There is no need to regulate something that will happen naturally.  As proof, I am now spending time writing this comment when I should be finishing my homework for a Hydrodynamic and Fluid-body interaction course I am currently taking.
