Storm Water Runoff Regulations

We as green builders strongly support Virginia efforts to install new storm water regulations which will protect all ground water, drinking water and bodies of surface water.  We are 25 year members of the Home Builders Association and strongly disagree with their position on this subject.  Initially it may increase the cost of homes but over the long run these measures the methods of installion will decrease in cost as the process becomes more main stream.  Of course the Home Builders Association is controled by the big volume builders whose only real interest is building cheap homes to make their earnings per share look better. We suggest that the next wave of storm water control should include such things as gray water recycling and the use of storm water and gray water for irrigation.  Nothing is more water wastefull than these irrigation system installed everywhere which use drinking water to irrigate lawns - even when it rains.

Ultimately there should be ZERO stormwater runnoff from any and all site development!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
