Poses unnecessary burden on retired persons wishing to maintain professinal status

As a recently retired professional engineer, I am concerned that a requirement for continuing education  will cause undue outlay of personal funds, particulalarly since I am now on a limited income.  I wish to continue to maintain my professional registration in retirement.  However, with income now fixed, to be required to receive professional training at my personal expense, will have a negative impact on my personal finances.  Such action could cause me to not renew my professional registration, something I do not wish to do. To  gain education, experience and  registration over a 40 year career in engineering and then have that status removed because of a frivolous requirement such as that proposed is disheartening.  Additionallhy, during my career I have attended numerous continuing education events and have found that these exercises have done little to expand my engineering talents or experience.
