Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Unscientific Government Proselytizing

I absolutely do not approve of the proposed guidelines based on radical and unscientific theories that eradicate all distinctions between male and female and indoctrinate our school children. This is for parents to teach their children. The school is not a church or parent. The schools are supposed to educate children not proselytize. Those in positions of authority in the school classroom and halls have the greater responsibility to demonstrate and show by example how we love one another, rather than bring society down to its basest nature and tendencies. This idea in the air is absurd. The absurdity is exemplified by Congressman Emanuel Cleaver closing a prayer with "Amen and Awomen" and the jokes that followed, i.e. is it Ramen or Rawomen, is it Menu or Womenu, is it Hispanic or Herspanic, pimento cheese or piwomento cheese? What has happened to intelligent conversations, dignity, and class and aspiring to a higher standard--inspiring and calling children to their best self? We have fallen so low! What you're doing is a crime--child abuse--taking advantage of impressionable young people, which it appears is the goal here.
