Strong Support for Continued Licensure of Landscape Architects

I strongly support continued licensure for landscape architects by the Virginia DPOR.

Landscape Architecture is a unique profession that combines facets of architecture, horticulture, and engineering (among others) to design projects outside of buildings and other structures. Landscape Architects provide a crucial role in the design of public and private outdoor spaces of varying scope and scale; from residential gardens, pools, and patios, to public parks, plazas, and streetscapes. During the design process, landscape architects provide oversite of numerous design elements that have a direct impact on public health, safety, and welfare. Whether it's the correct design of a retaining wall, a properly developed stormwater management system, or proper plant selection for a public park or streetscape, the education and experience required to obtain landscape architecture license ensures that it is professionals who are making sound design decisions to protect the public and private citizens who live, work, and play in the outdoor environment. Obtaining and maintaining licensure is the best way ensure a designer's competency and protect users of the designed outdoor spaces.

It is critical that the Commonwealth of Virginia continue to License Landscape Architects!

Thank you for your time and consideration,
