Not in favor of mandatory CE -- Is it law?

I'm not in favor of mandatory CE, but I wonder if the protests of the vast majority of commentators will be to no avail.  If I'm reading the web site and links correctly, the Virginia Legislature passed a state law to make it mandatory -- that is most unfortunate.  Who introduced the bill?  Will the Board go back to the Legislature and tell them what the majority of the professional engineers, architects, and surveyors who comment are saying so that the law will be re-examined?

Where is the need?  Most professionals are life-time learners.  Its the nature of being a professional. But now we'll be burdened with bureaucratic requirements.  Have there been identified failures that would have been prevented by the continuing education requirements proposed?  If an engineer messes up -- sanction them.

I have a colleague registered in several states -- he tells me that as you approach your renewal date you get flooded with on-line "educators" selling you on-line courses to meet the requirement.  Whose purposes are being served with this requirement.?
