My name is Virginia Hilleary and I both live and work in the Commonwealth. I am writing supporting continued regulation of the interior design profession in Virginia. 

 

Although I no longer practice as a full-time interior designer, I studied and practiced to become one, learning much more than color and patterns. Voluntary regulation adds another level of professionalism and accountability, while not preventing anyone from putting up a "shingle." The requirements for certification expand a designer's knowledge base, and create a much more skilled, learned employer or employee.
