STRONG SUPPORT OF va LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE LICENSURE!!

I am a licensed Landscape Architect in Virginia, as well as three (3) other states. I founded LD7 Studio, LLC, in 2015. Our work is primarily focused on commericial, hospitality, office, multi-family development, and institutional/public work. As landscape architects, we are part of multi-disiplinary teams on most of our projects, working closely with the architect, civil engineer, and other professionals on these projects. Our work involves applying the relative IBC and VA IBC codes to our design work, whether it be atop the roof, over parking structure, or on grade. This effort involves the design and detailing of the hardscape (walkways, walls, railings, guardrails, pathways, pool design, etc.), layout design, landscape, aesthetic lighting design, aesthetic waterfeature design, and so forth. In all cases, it is imparative that we always look at the health, safety, and welfare of the general public to ensure our design and details meet all applicable IBC regulations. This is relied upon by our clients who hire our services and provide our livelihood. Our clients look for licensed landscape architects to be part of their team because of our knowledge and understanding of how our design in an intregal part of their project and their project team. They expect us to coordinate thoroughly with the civil engineer, structural engineer, architect, etc., to make a seamless package of drawings for the contractor to use for construction. Our design and detailing, whether it be paving and hardscape, entrance walls and signage, landscape vertical elements in the design, is typically the first thing a visitor / tenant / resident sees when entering their project, thus setting the stage for what is to come, whether a commercial building, office building, hotel, museum, educational building, etc.

Licenssed LA's in Virginia are required to maintain our licenses by taking CEU courses for every two year period, which means we must be on top of the most recent learning opportunities that will benefit ourselves and our clients.

Delicensing of landscape architects would be detrimental to the health, safety, and welfare of the general public who visit and use our clients projects since we are an important part of the design team for any given project. Further, we pursue work for the various Universities within Virginia and they require landscape architects to be part of their teams, and look for licensed landscape architects with SWAM certification, which LD7 Studio is.  Please take these words seriously and do not delicense landscape architects.

Respectfully,

David a. Lesiuk, VA LA # 0406001648
