Continuing Education will mean older PE.'s will discontinue their P.E. license

I am an independent consulting engineer who will be financially impacted by the continuing education requirement.  In order to keep my Commonwealth of Virginia P.E. license for a few more years ( I will soon be 60) I may take continuing education courses if forced to do so.  However, at some point when the costs outweigh the benefits, I would not renew the license.  Experience should count for something.  I suggest that engineers over a certain age be exempted from any continuing education requirement.
