Vote NO, practicing PE's are already staying current, it's part of our job's

I am currently licensed in eight states and several have continuing education credit systems in place. The problem is that many states diverge on what is accepted as CEU's, the most problematic being New York State which must "approve" all courses for them to be accepted. Unfortunately, NYS approved courses are mainly offered in New York State. Once I am required to gain NYS CEU's, I will need to travel 400 miles each way, and due to limited corporate budgeting for acquiring CEU's, I will likely have to attend only NYS approved courses, though others may be better or more relevant to my area of practice. I feel that CEU requirements create a hardship for PE's, especially ones in smaller or private practices from being able to remain licensed. Furthermore, keeping current with codes, technology, product lines and new project delivery methods is inherent in a PE's job duties and does not need to be further regulated and/or checked.

If the board does decide to create CEU requirements, please allow internet based seminars to be accepted, many trade publications like Building Design and Construction, Consulting Specifying Engineer, etc. offer free webcast seminars that include a follow up online exam to earn the CEU's.
