Opposed to recommended changes

Carroll County Public Schools is opposed to the proposed changes by DMAS to the Virginia school-based Medicaid reimbursement program. Negative impacts that these changes would have on CCPS are numerable and include: decreased billing due to waiting on physicians’ signatures on the nursing Plans of Care, increased work for the school nurses that will take away from the direct services they need to provide to the students at their schools; physicians’ offices may charge a fee for completing additional paperwork that would be an additional cost to the school district; decreased reimbursement for transportation services due to loss of billing for nursing services while awaiting physicians to return the required paperwork. Carroll County borders North Carolina and many students receive care from physicians in this state as well as Tennessee. Loss of billing and reimbursement would occur for these students if their out of state physicians are not DMAS providers.

I urge you to reconsider these proposed changes and allow the current school-based Medicaid reimbursement program requirements to remain in place.
