Conversion therapy is a dangerous and discredited practice that is based on the false claim that LGBTQ individuals have a mental illness that needs to be cured. These psychologically abusive practices are extremely dangerous and can lead to substance abuse and high levels of suicide/suicide attempts in vulnerable youth. Mental health officials should provide care that is ethical and affirming, and no young person should ever be shamed by a mental health provider to change who they are. 
Please ban conversion therapy to protect young people from therapists in Virginia who falsely claim to youth and parents that being LGBTQ is a mental illness
