While I agree that there should be a regulation in place restricting air pollution to some degree, I believe that legislation such as this is excessive in the sense that it provides too many restrictions on businesses which in return restrict them from performing at the capacity they should be able to.  I am in no way undermining the importance to preserve the environment or value public health, but a proposed regulation that places even stricter constraints on business will only hurt the economy and slow growth.  In Gary D. Libecap’s article titled The High Price Of Environmental Regulationsfrom Hoover Institution, he states that environmental regulations “not only divert tax revenues from other uses, such as schools, hospitals, highways, but raise consumer prices by increasing energy costs”.  As stated earlier, there should be some regulation of some sort, but not so much that we are sacrificing economic growth at this level.
