dry needling by physical therapist

I am a Licensed Acupuncturist in Montrose, CO. Some of my patients who have received "dry needling" from their P.T.'s expressed to me their negative remarks about their experience..Physical Therapsit in Montrose, CO who are performing "dry needling" have hurt their patients according to what the patients have expressed to me.

They have inserted the acupuncture needles to deep into the patients soft tissues, causing extreme pain and discomfort. This is due their lack of knowledge and lack of training in safe needling and clean needling techniques. They also lacked the important knowledge of how and why acupuncture works. Yet, they are using Acupuncture needles and calling it "dry needling.." This is absurd! There is no such thing as "dry needling."

Acupuncturists do not use "wet needles." All needling is done with dry, sterile, disposable needles.

If Physical Therapists are allowed to continue using "dry needling" they will continue to give Acupuncture a bad reputation due to their lack of knowledge and comprehension of this medicine. This is already happening in my community. " Please stop this abuse." Physical Therapists are not trained in the proper use of needling, nor are they trained in the knowledge of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

Sincerely,

Deborah Thompson, L.Ac.
