The thought that physical therapists "do not have adequate training" to perform dry needling is obsurd. We devote our educational career for 3 years (beyond our undergraduate education) to developing an understanding of human anatomy and movement systems. Dry needling is theoretically and conceptually different from acupuncture and is utilized to achieve the facilitation of movement and reduction of pain in a way that is unrelated to acupuncture. Literature supports the use of dry needling by physical therapists in order to facilitate improved function in decreased time frames leading to increased quality of care for our patients. Please continue to support the use of this essential tool in physical therapy practice for optimal patient care. Thank you.
