I have been a Physical Therapist for more than 46 years. In that span, like most folks, I occasionally reflect back on patients that I've treated, successes and failures. I think we all have "wish I coulda" moments where we recall strategies that have been enhanced/supplanted by newer techniques. Thus it is with dry needling. I learned the skill at Myopain seminars 5 1/2 years ago, and it has been a true revelation. I now have a tool to successfully treat pain, the biggest adversary we face. Dry needling has a volume of good evidence -based research behind it, and is clinically proven to improve patient function, performance, comfort, and mental outlook by greatly diminishing-eliminating pain that restricts motion. Coupled with a comprehensive stretching and exercise program and the therapist and patitent form a duo with the goal of improving the patient's quality of life. This is the best tool in my tool box, and needs to be readily available to the public performed by a trained practitioner. Thank you.
