Phyiscal Therapists are the medical professionals that are the most highly trained in the musculoskeletal system.  Graduation from an accredited physical therapy program gives the majority of the knowledge and skills to perform dry needling safely and effectively. An emphasis on anatomy and physiology of the human system, especially the musculoskeletal system, and palpation of muscles and their dysfunctions gives the physical therapist the ability to locate and treat the trigger point with dry needling.  The additional post graduate training required to perform and become certified in dry needling provides knowlegde and skill base beyond what is needed to perform dry needling safely and effectively.

Dry Needling is NOTHING like acupuncture.  These are two completely different techniques.  A dry needling therapist must be able to find a trigger point in a muscle and know how to stimulate that muscle with the solid filament needle.  One needle is used at a time.  The placement of the needle is based on the patients individual locations of trigger points, NOT based on acupunture points.

Support our Physical Therapists, and allow us to continue to provide this extremely helpful service for the community in Virginia!
