No matter how we look at it, dry needling is within the scope of acupuncture practice.
Without sufficient training in acupuncture like acupuncturists, dry needling by physical therapists raises safety concerns. As we all know, all acupuncturist are required to have lengthy and intense training before being granted licenses. After only 30 hours of training, inserting needles on patients by physical therapists guarantees health hazard. Besides, I don't believe physical therapist are licensed to insert needles on patients. I strongly believe that physical therapists should not be allowed to perform dry needling unless they finish the proper training like all the acupuncturists do.
