Gov. McAuliffe's proposal to change Virginia's Voter Registration Application seems to contradict the Commonwealth's Constitution, which he swore to uphold. Specifically, three provisions of the Constitution would be violated: Article !!, Section 1, Qualifications of voters; Section 2, Registration of voters; and Section 4, Powers and duties of General Assembly. By making affirmation of citizenship and felony status "optional" and their omission as "immaterial", the Governor not only contradicts the Constitution, he also belittles every citizen's voting franchise. And under Section 4 of the Constitution, it would appear that only the General Assembly can establish a "uniform system" for voter registration; it is not the Governor's prerogative to make changes administratively. I URGE the State Board of Elections to REJECT the Governor's blatant, unseemly attempt to corrupt the precious voting franchise of Virginia's citizens - yes, CITIZENS! Thank you.
