I have a problem with eliminating the materiel boxes for citizenship, felon, and mental competence - particularly citizenship. Although the declaration statement signed by the registrant will include reference to these criteria, the language dealing with citizenship is different from that in box 1 of the current form. Box 1 asks if you are a U.S. citizen. The declaration statement simply states you meet Virginia's citizenship requirements. What does that mean? Sounds like a pre cursor to legislation that will allow illegals to vote in state and local elections. The excuse that registrants miss filling out the boxes before signing the form thus delaying their ability to register and vote is ludicrous since the proposed form still requires a box for age to be checked. Why not eliminate that box too? I don't believe there have been that many people "inconvenienced" by missing a box and how can you miss the very first box dealing with citizenship but manage to fill in the others? If materiel information boxes are not that important maybe the state ought to simplify the form used to apply for concealed carry permit by eliminating a few of those boxes. I believe this administration would like to add a few to that form to make it harder to get a permit for concealed carry.
