sensitive or controversial instructional materials in the classroom

I support - providing opt-out options for students who do not wish to be present in the classroom when discussions on sensitive topics may take place.

I am not opposed to my children participating in these types of discussions.  As a concerned parent I cannot monitor or control all the influences my children will encounter, nor do I want to.  My preference is to teach them how to evaluate and process sensitive and controversial information.  In addition to their class discussions, I encourage and initiate home discussion so they can receive perspective from their parents.
