Protecting trans children

It has been suggested we need to ban trans girls from women's sports and locker rooms in order to protect cisgender girls. As a woman and a former varsity athlete in Virginia public schools, I want to ask, what are we doing to protect transgender girls? There is a mental health crisis happening with our youth, and trans children are uniquely vulnerable to bullying and exclusion. Trans children are also especially vulnerable to physical violence. We should be doing everything we can to protect and integrate trans children in our schools. Exclusionary and divisive measures like those which have been suggested, will rob trans girls of the valuable experiences sports can provide, including social support and physical well being. These measures would also increase the risk of severe negative outcomes for trans girls, including suicide. Trans girls aren't dangerous. Protect trans children.
