This is my second comment because I want to make it very clear that while menhaden are not considered overfished coast wide, No one has any idea if there are enough in the bay to support the ecosystem. There are certainly indicators that there is a problem. for example the recent research on starving osprey chicks in the lower bay, and the fact that the industry is having trouble catching their quota. This year they did not hit the bay quota, in spite of trying very hard, and even adding an additional harvest ship. This alone speaks volumes. Something must be done because the ecosystem is suffering. to add insult to injury the industry for two years has lobbied against proposed menhaden study bills. Why are they afraid of science?
