The overall health of the Chesapeake Bay and surrounding ecosystem requires that commercial activity be regulated and limited to no more than is sustainable. Right now, we need to do whatever is necessary to allow the menhaden population to recover to natural and sustainable levels. The menhaden are an important part of the entire ecosystem, and should not be over-fished to the detriment of other species and the detriment of the overall health of the Bay.
