Omega and Ocean harvester should not be purse seining inside the Chesapeake or within state coastal waters. The area within the bay is too easily depleted and destroyed from fishing at that scale. Vessels the size of Ocean Harvester’s, operating the way they do, are also hazardous to smaller vessels in the bay. I have been nearly capsized by wakes caused by an Omega vessel running at speed and making tight turns in my vicinity. All people and business should equitably benefit from the Bay’s ecosystem. Omega/Ocean Harvester are taking an unfair share of the shared resource and are receiving preferential legislation from the VA Government.
