Soiled clothing put in a leakproof storage system

8VAC20-781-480 Preventing the spread of disease

D. When any child’s clothing has been contaminated with body fluids, it shall be separated and stored in leakproof storage system until returned to the child’s parent.

  • Does this mean stored in a leakproof or plastic-lined storage system that is either foot-operated or used in such a way that neither the staff member's hand nor the soiled diaper touches an exterior surface of the storage system during disposal (781-500.G)?
  • No school age classroom and most classrooms serving children who are toilet trained do not have the storage system described above. Even for classrooms with children not toilet trained there is not one container per child.
  • Most centers use a plastic bag or similar item to store soiled clothes that go home at the end of the day.
  • Please rewrite or eliminate this.
