It is my belief that strict regulations should be continued for all clinics providing abortion services. There should be oversight and mandatory reporting of incidents wherein the woman seeking the abortion becomes ill or injured. An abortion is intrusive and dangerous. It can impact a woman's reproduction system adversely. SUch clinics should be regularly inspected and compliant with all statutes, health regulations, sanitation, waste disiposal, and, more importantly, compliant with restrictions on 2nd and 3rd trimester abortions. Notification of parents of a minor seeking an abortion should be required as it would be if the minor were engaging in any other surgical procedure. I am opposed to abortions in general, but if they're allowed by law, then those who have oversight must act to insure that the clinic is operating within the law and that the woman is informed about the dangers and about the stage of her pregancy. I would favor requiring a woman considering an abortion to have an ultrasound at least a week prior to an abortion. Let her see for herself the life within her - that is to be truly informed. Regulations regarding record-keeping, information provided, sanitation of the facility, sterilization of instruments - should all be subject to inspectionf for compliance and non-compliance should result in revocation of licensing for the facility and non-compliant managing and/or medical professionals. Restrictions as to when (in the course of a pregnancy) an abortion can be performed and parental notifications if the requesting patient is a minor should be in place permanently.
