As a veteran and American Legion member, I am very cognizant of the importance of supporting these types of organizations and the challenges they face in raising the funds to accomplish their worthy missions.
Because of this, I am concerned with a number of the draft regulations relating to charitable poker.
Many of the proposed regulations seem to needlessly hinder the ability of nonprofit organizations to raise funds and in some cases create insurmountable burdens. As an example, there is a proposed regulation relating to the use of proceeds that would preclude spending for the exact purposes that the organizations such as the American Legion, per IRS code, direct proceeds. This seems illogical, if not targeted. It is my hope that these regulations are reviewed with a mind towards the possible greater impact they could have on charitable organizations and that the leaders of these organizations (the experts in this industry are consulted as this process progresses.
