The human side of Poker

The human side of Texas Holdem Poker. The Richmond Tri-cities boasts a thriving Poker community. They range in ages from 18-80 and come from all walks of life, Doctors, dentists, lawyers, law enforcement, military, real estate, building trades, UPS Drivers, and of course, retirees. This community numbers several hundred enthusiasts who eagerly await the end of the workday so they can descend, from all corners of Richmond city and surrounding counties, on their favorite Poker venue. This is where they find fun and fellowship in the emotional rollercoaster ride that is Poker. It has been this environment that has provided me with over 100 friends and acquaintances. This typical American melting pot is formed through the common bond that the pure enjoyment of Texas Holdem Poker provides and nurtures.

Pop’s Poker not only provides this wonderful outlet for our large group of enthusiasts but provides it in a professional, competition standard setting that includes trained dealers, blind structures, well placed monitors to view tournament progression, and quality functional software to ensure the integrity of an event. Tables are monitored, dealers are rotated, disputes are objectively adjudicated, and all rules of Poker are enforced. All this in support of worthy causes prompted me to write this note.

Finally, after a few years of COVID restricted social contact, the ongoing efforts to make this refreshing venue a permanent fixture should not be crippled by regulations not consistent with the broader national standard clearly detailed in code.

Note* This is a follow-up to my initial feedback specifically addressing proposed regulation.
