The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative is a valuable program that is helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and bringing in needed funds for vulnerable Virginians. Withdrawing from RGGI jeopardizes our low- to moderate-income families by removing a vital and irreplaceable funding source that supports energy efficiency and health and safety upgrades to the most vulnerable segments of the population. Funds are also used for coastal resilience and community flood preparedness. Since the program was launched, RGGI has resulted in a net economic benefit of billions of dollars while carbon dioxide emissions have dropped by as much as half in participating states. Why would you pull out of this program that is so successful?
