The needs of the children should come first.  Sexual Orientation shouldn't be a reason to deny a couple from adopting.  

I have read arguments from people saying that "unmarried/single" individuals can adopt.  Well a gay or lesbian should be able to adopt TOGETHER.  There isn't any reason why two people of the same sex wouldn't make wonderful parents.  

At this point it is scary for gays and lesbians to adopt because there is a fear that if anything were to happen to the one that adopted the child then the surviving partner may loose the child.  In order to protect the child and the family we need to change our current policies.
