Our society generally operates under the dangerous delusion that we are somehow separate from our environment and can treat nature and animals as “resources” without consequences. Practically nobody in a policymaking position is taking the unfolding climate crisis seriously enough, in my opinion (which is substantiated by a near-unanimous consensus of scientists studying climate, including multiple family members of mine who specialize in various related sciences.) The RGGI doesn’t go nearly far enough. To withdraw from it would deal a devastating blow to the timid steps towards facing what we’re doing to the Earth. Prioritize living beings, not the GDP!
