Continuing Education Requirement

I have been a registered professional engineer in Virginia for 34 years. In that time I have continued to keep my engineering training current by attending seminars and workshops. Some have been worthwhile and some have not. I will continue to do so, whether or not they are mandated.

I would suggest NOT mandating continuing education for professional engineering registration, at least for those of us who have been registered for a long time. We are professionals and we know what we need to stay current in our own specialized fields. If continuing education is mandated, we could easily comply without any real effect, getting the 16 hours the easiest way possible whether or not relevant. Engineering is too broad to mandate CE.
