Waste of Time

I agree that this is a waste of time and money. Most continuing ed courses are of little technical value and the bureaucracy created at the state level to administer and approve these courses is costly and results in very little value added to the body of professional work. It does however create a new industry of continuing education instructors who have the time to seek and obtain state board approval of these inconsequential courses. If there is particular new information that the state board feels engineers should know to remain current in this state they should invest a few funds to develop and publish that information. Engineers are professionals which means that they have proven that they are capable of governing themselves. This privilege should include the responsibility of remaining current in their professional knowledge.
