A Flawed Concept

While the concept of Continuing Education is positive, the current programs put forward by various states and by the AIA have generally not resulted in the real furthering of professional abilities.  Course offerings skim the surface and provide only cursory information.  Presentations by commercial firms seeking access to A/E offices may provide lunch, but not much more.  AIA programs are used as a prod for members to attend conventions, and tend to count people in the room, not all of whom are awake.  The reporting of courses taken is cumbersome and should not be left in the hands of an organization such as the AIA that does not have legal standing.  I do not support the initiation of a continuing education system.
