Against mandatory CE requirements

There is very little chance that this requirement would provide any value for the State.  It would simply be another bureaucratic burden and would penalize those individuals who already strive to achieve excellence in their field.   Practicing PE’s are constantly educating themselves as required by their profession and do not need to waste time and money taking random coursework in order to fulfill some state regulation.  The most serious impact this decision would have is that it would likely discourage new engineers from achieving professional certification.  That would be a serious blow to Virginia’s engineering community, particularly in today’s competitive economy.
