Continuing Education is Pointless

The CUE requirements that have become mandatory in many of the states in which I am registered have done nothing more than to spawn an industry of lower tier educational forums that, for the most part, provide no real benefit.  It sounds like a good idea, but the reality is that the concept of continuing eduacation for engineers has not lived up to it's expectations.

My experiences in these courses has shown me that they don't present any material that I have not either already been exposed to or could easily find on my own should the need arise.  There are are many ways todays engineer can stay abreast of new developments (trade journals, interactions with equipment suppliers, etc.) and I don't see the need to to enforce useless educational courses that just consume precious time and monetary resources.
