Proposals for implementation

The following suggestions are made for implemention the law:

1) Virigina must provide funding for all registered PEs to take the required classes in whichever state they now reside.  Until the funding is provided, the requirement shall not be enforced.

2) Employer sponsored training shall be credited for 1 hour for each hour of classroom training.

3) For-profit training classes shall not be recognized for credit unless funding is provided by the Commonwealth of Viriginia

4) A PE shall be audited no more than once in their career.

5) Any audit of training records which reveals a shortfall shall be noted in a certified letter to the registered PE and provide one year for the PE to remedy before any further actions can be taken.

6) A PE shall be allowed to make his license inactive until such time that he notifies the board that he wants it to be active again, and at that point in time shall be allowed two years to begin to accrue required CE credits.  The PE shall be allowed to perform during this time period.

7) Each year of experience since becoming a PE shall count as 10 CE units that can be used to satisfy present and future CE requirements.

8) Virginia shall prepare a list of accredited courses and classes, and publish this monthly.

9) Virginia shall provide at no cost internet based CE courses at no cost to PEs in sufficient quantity to satisfy any requirements.

10) The following PEs are exempt from the requirement: teachers at any accredited school, military personnel on active duty, PEs registered in more than one state, engineers with MS or PhDs degrees in Engineering, members of Mensa, PEs with more than 20 years of experience, PEs who are self-employed, anyone who has lived in Virginia for more than 10 years after receiving an Engineering degree.
