First Solar Development, LLC, has provided the Department of Environmental Quality a notice of intent to submit the necessary documentation for a permit by rule for a small renewable energy project (solar) in Montgomery County pursuant to Virginia Regulation 9VAC15-60.  The project is located on approximately 230 acres between I-81 and Mud Pike Road approximately 4 miles southeast of Christiansburg. The project conceptually consists of approximately 61,500 x 430 watt modules across 8 x 2.5 megawatt (AC) arrays, providing a facility net capacity of 20 megawatts (AC).
