Pursuant to House Joint Resolution 243, the Department of Environmental Quality is studying the benefits and costs of seeking authority from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to administer the § 404 permitting program under the federal Clean Water Act. The § 404 program is currently administered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. DEQ will convene a representative group of stakeholders to assist it in determining the benefits and costs of seeking such authority from EPA.
Persons interested in being considered to participate in this group should notify the department contact person below. The membership of the group will be determined at the discretion of the agency to try to ensure that the group is representative of the various interests.
The Department anticipates holding two stakeholder group meetings, the first is expected to be held on either June 21st or June 28th, and the second is expected to be held on August 23rd or August 30th. Written requests for inclusion on the stakeholders group, including those by email, must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. on May 14th, 2012 and should be submitted to William Norris at the address given below. Only those requests received within this period will be considered. Written requests shall include your name, address, telephone number, email address and the organization you represent, if any. The requests shall also contain a complete, concise statement of the basis for inclusion on the stakeholders group.
