| Purpose of the meeting The Coastal Program is updating its coastal needs assessment and strategy under Section 309 of the Coastal Zone Management Act. Section 309 is a voluntary coastal zone enhancement grants program which encourages states to develop program changes in one or more of nine coastal enhancement areas, including wetlands, public access, coastal hazards, cumulative and secondary impacts, energy and government facility siting, marine debris, ocean resources, special area management plans and aquaculture. The coastal needs assessment and strategy will evaluate the Commonwealth of Virginia's priority needs for improvement in above areas, and develop a strategy for addressing these top priority needs. The public is invited to attend an open house, review documents, and provide comments or suggestions. A draft assessment and strategy outline will be available for review at after January 16, 2001 at http://www.state.va.us/coastal.
