| Purpose of the meeting House Bill 568 (Acts of Assembly 2006, Chapter 780) replaces the current Virginia state and local communications taxes and fees with a centrally administered Communications Sales and Use Tax, a uniform statewide E-911 tax on landline telephone service and a cable television provider's public right-of-way use fee beginning January 1, 2007. The Virginia Department of Taxation (TAX) will hold a public meeting from 10:00 A.M. to 12 P.M. on June 9, 2006 at its offices at 2220 West Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia 23220. TAX will present a brief overview of the legislation and its plan to implement the legislation, including the public participation process for guidelines development. TAX will also receive the comments and suggestions of interested parties and ask them to identify potential issues concerning the new taxes. | |
