| Purpose of the meeting Purpose: The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (“DEQ”) is developing an updated draft of the Environmental Justice in the Permitting Process Guidance. DEQ will host a town hall to discuss with the public the development of the guidance document. Any member of the public is welcome to attend the town hall. The purpose of the town hall is to hear from the public regarding the following two topics, to further assist DEQ with the development of the guidance: (1) how to assess the cumulative impacts of certain DEQ-issued permits; and (2) what are recommended outreach strategies to engage communities impacted by such permits. DEQ will post the draft guidance as soon as it is available. DEQ plans to hold a second town hall to discuss these topics at the end of July. DEQ will announce the second town hall once it has secured an appropriate location. The meeting will begin at 6:00 pm and end at 9:00 pm.
