| Purpose of the meeting PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host the second Community Engagement meeting for the Hat and Black Creek Watershed Restoration Plan on February 27, 2024. The meeting is open to the public and any member of the public may participate in the proceedings. The meeting participants will assist in development of a Watershed Restoration Plan, also known as an Advance Restoration Plan, to address benthic impairments of Hat and Black Creeks in Nelson County, which have been listed on Virginia’s § 303(d) list of impaired waters for failing to meet Virginia’s water quality standards due to an altered benthic community. An Advance Restoration Plan outlines actions to achieve water quality standards and restore impaired waters. The meeting will discuss potential best management practices to include in the plan in addition to education and outreach strategies, and partner organizations to engage in the implementation process.
