Code of Virginia ยง19.2-169.2 allows courts to order CSBs/BHAs to provide treatment to restore the competency to stand trial of a defendant who has been adjudicated incompetent. In order to develop and expand community capacity to provide this service, DBHDS has developed a training course for CSB/BHA staff who will be assigned to provide restoration services in their locality. This manual is provided to the CSB/BHA staff as a tool for working with defendants who have been ordered to participate in outpatient competency restoration.
