BOC Standards

Article 1.1: Define the term "inmate accessible".

Article 3.5a: Monthly architect inspection reports is an unecessary expense to the locality. This is particulary true if the Architect is remotely located from the site.

Article 5.4b: Double cell square footage should be reduced to 80 sf if the second bunk does not impact available floor space. This size works well in Virginia Beach and still exceeds ACA Standards.

Article 5.16: Consideration should be made for video visitation systems that allow for more efficient scheduling of non-contact visitation. The need for contact visitation rooms is also reduced where attorneys and probation/parole offices are accomplishing visits through video visitation.

Article 5.37c5: Use of hold down clips in supervised areas should not be required due to the need in some cases to routinely access equipment above acoustic ceilings. This is particularly true in corridors, which tend to have high ceilings.

Article 5.40b3: Duct penetrations of interior security partitions should not need to be protected with bar grille if located above a security ceiling. Consideration should also be given to making bar grille in duct penetrations optional in interior security walls if the perimeter wall barrier is maintained. Bar grille impedes air flow and collects air particulate.

Article 5.44h: The use of flexible metal conduit to connect lighting fixtures above ceiling should be allowed. The area above ceiling is not a hardened area.
