Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Strongly support

I'm seeing a lot of people saying they don't support this policy, but am I the only one who read the statistics about transgender teens and how often they are bullied and threatened and how often they are depressed and anxious due to how people treat them? I feel like many of you just wish they didn't exist or wish they just weren't trans, as if they have a choice about how they see themselves. There's no fascist agenda here, just asking people to accept that some people are different from you. I have a feeling where the "73% of trans teens reporting experiences of verbal threats" comes from seeing some of the comments on here.

FYI: I am a cis-gendered man but I have met multiple trans people in the course of my job and they were some of the most loving, loyal people I have ever met. While I hope this encourages people to stop and think, I know this will probably not reach the people who believe differently so let me also say that I support those of you who are trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, etc. Love you all.
