Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Kids aren't ready for this...

As a public school teacher, it grieves me that we would force children to swallow concepts they aren't ready for.  It grieves me that we would tell parents that they cannot teach their own children what they believe to be right.  This legislation is forcing on the population of our state at large a worldview that most do not hold to.  Our nation is supposed to be one of Freedom and Individual Rights, where each person is free to live by his/her own convictions.  Putting this type of legislation through sends the message that we must believe what the government tells us to.  I would have a hard time telling a child it was okay if he wanted to change genders.  Based on the Bible I believe God creates each person male or female, and it is wrong to force the people of Virginia to teach children and manage schools according to a godless worldview.  More and more families will decide to leave public schools for other educational options if the state forces them to swallow this viewpoint.
