Don't Do IT !!

I have been registered in Virginia since 1983 and the State of North Carolina since 2005. North Carolina requires PDH's.

My observations: North Carolina granted my comity due to my successful career and work history. Not because I have taken 16 hours of PDH's throughout my career.

Every North Carolina P.E. that I have spoken to views the requirement as a burden, not adding value to their career. As many have said in other comments, if you are active in the Profession you are constantly being challenged and educationally updated. If you are not active in the Profession, you will simply discontinue your License. Concerning myself, I will be dropping my Virginia license if this requirement is imposed. I will be sadden that I can not keep my Virginia License, but the expense and hassles will not be worth the effort.

Also many of my NC P.E. friends express that after a few years of taking courses within their specialties, they are finding that they are rehashing courses just to meet the required PDH's. What a statement! Taking course work material that is either a mild variation from a previous version over and over, just to satisfy a govermental imposed requirement.

If we had a problem that needed to be fixed, then we should fix it. But show me the evidence that there is a problem within our Professional Engineering Product for the State of Virginia. And if there is a problem, then requiring a 16 hour PDH rule will NOT solve it.
